Quantitative Percussion Diagnostics (QPD) has been extensively studied, with over 28 peer-reviewed publications in engineering and dental journals validating its accuracy and reliability in assessing the structural health of teeth and implants. Unlike traditional diagnostic methods that rely primarily on visual assessments, such as radiographs and clinical examination, QPD employs mechanical testing principles similar to those used in engineering to evaluate structural stability.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been used to model the mechanisms underlying QPD, illustrating how it differentiates between intact and compromised teeth. With the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), dentistry is now transitioning toward predictive diagnostics. A past president of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the American Association of Women Dentists, she holds fellowships in several prestigious dental organizations.
Dr. Sheets has received numerous accolades, including the Gordon Christensen Award for Excellence in Lecturing, USC School of Dentistry Alumnus of the Year, and the Excellence in Clinical Research Award.
